Beginning the Academic Essay

Dear John,
It has recently been a great time in the Indus Valley. We have started farming near rivers and because of the repetitive flooding our crops are always well watered without us doing any work. We have grown lots of crops and the agricultural revolution has begun! In case you don’t know what that is, it’s when we stopped being hunters and gatherers and began being farmers. This has made life much easier for us because we don’t have to waste energy hunting the animals because we can just plant crops and let them grow. This also helps produce more food than before. Each animal only had a specific amount of meat, but when you plant crops you can plant as much as you want if you have the seeds and walk doing it, not run and therefore waste less energy. With these crops, I reckon that we could even feed you!

I also think that you should come live over here and move from Mesopotamia. There are heaps of smart people over there developing a language and you don’t fit in. If you come over here you could be a farmer and we could sell heaps of food and be rich. All of us over here in the Indus Valley are really happy and I think that you would like it as well. Also, when you live in the Indus you don’t have to work much at all if your a farmer. All they do is sit back and watch the grass grow. It doesn’t sound that nice but believe me, it is the best thing you will ever do. It’s better than writing on clay anyway. Please come over here so everybody can meet you.

Yours sincerely, Mary.
